NRA Executives & Board Members

Gary Black, Executive Director

As Executive Director of the NRA, Gary leads a national organisation that provides a range of professional services to industry and represents the interests of the retail sector (Australia's largest employer) to governments, the media and the wider community.

Gary has previously held the role of Director of the NRA's Employment Law Division and has been responsible for providing specialist strategic plans to meet the needs of retail corporations. Gary has extensive experience in employee relations, having held industrial relations, advocacy and management positions with a number of Australia's leading  employer organisations.

Gary spent a decade with ITT Sheraton and held a range of roles including General Manager Designate and Deputy General Manager of Sheraton Towers Southgate in Melbourne.


Bianca Seeto, Director Employment Law Division

Bianca is a solicitor who joined the NRA in March 2004. Before joining the team, Bianca worked for Yum! Restaurants International at the company's Brisbane Restaurant Support Centre.

As a member of the Employment Law Team, Bianca is responsible for providing advice to members on employment law and industrial relations issues including counselling, termination matters and trading hours applications. Bianca is also involved in the drafting of enterprise agreements and represents members at Fair Work Australia and the anti-discrimination commissions.

Bianca has a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Journalism and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Queensland University of Technology.


Michael Lonie, NSW State Director

Michael has over thirty years experience in the Retail Property and Industry Association sectors. The first fifteen years were spent with various major landlords in the retail property sector working in all areas including retail leasing, property management, centre management and retail centre development.

The past sixteen years have been spent providing members of various retail associations with advice on all matters relating to retail tenancy including:
• Retail leasing including renewals, options and new leases
• Retail rentals including current market rents
• Occupancy costs
• Outgoing budgets
• Key Performance Indictors of retail businesses including sales performance, productivity rates, margins and gross profit percentages, wages, and other operating costs
• Store utilisation
• Design Briefs
• Feasibility studies
• Analysis of a retail business
• Retail lease disputes between landlord and tenant


Carly Faragher, NRA Events & Marketing Manager

Carly commenced working for the NRA in January 2010 as the Executive Assistant to the CEO and held key accountabilities in the areas of marketing, events and membership liaison.

As Events and Marketing Manager, Carly is responsible for the promotion and coordination of key events and publications for the NRA and its affiliated Associations. These events vary from informative briefings to industry reward and recognition events to networking functions.

Carly also acts as Secretary for affiliated associations including the Hardware Association of Queensland (HAQ) and the Hardware Association of New South Wales (HANSW).


Kristine Skippington, General Manager - Training Division

Kristine Skippington is a highly experienced manager with a long-term background in teaching and training.  Kristine's most recent public sector experience has been as a member of the Executive team at The Bremer Institute of TAFE, the 2004 Queensland Large Training Provider of the Year.  Kristine is competent in managing the delivery of training programs and has exceptional communication, leadership and general management skills.  Through her experience at Bremer TAFE, Kristine has also gained significant business development skills, with considerable experience in building community networks.  Kristine's qualifications include a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Teaching.


Adam Medved, Finance & Administration Manager

Adam joined the NRA team in December 2007 as Payroll Officer. Over the years, Adam has increased his knowledge, skillset and experience within the NRA's Finance Division. In 2011, Adam progressed into the role of Finance and Administration Manager.

Overseeing the finance and administration sectors, Adam is accountable for managing the day to day operations within these divisions to ensure procedures are in line with common business practice and legislative requirements. Adam is also responsible for the financial reporting and management of internal accounting practices within NRA, along with the accounting requirements of NRA’s affiliated associations.
