PwC’s Skills for Australia is conducting important research into three cross-sectoral skills areas that have been identified by the Federal Department of Education and Training as being at the forefront of growth and innovation – across multiple industries – in Australia. Input is currently being sought from stakeholders around Australia and from a broad range of industries to give voice to the future workforce requirements and skills needs specific to the areas of Cyber Security, Big Data, and Teamwork and Communication.

Who can contribute to the research?

Anyone who represents an employer in industry, subject matter expert or researcher, learner, trainer or training provider can contribute, including anyone who is simply passionate about the future of Australia’s workforce in any of these skills areas. You do not need to have specific knowledge of Australia’s vocational education and training system.

You may be aware that there are a series of cross sector projects that have recently commenced that will see greater collaboration across Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) and Skills Service Organisations (SSOs) for training package development in eight skills areas. Each cross sector project has an allocated SSO lead, with PwC’s Skills for Australia leading in the below skills areas:

Please see below for an update on these projects. Attached are some Information Sheets that you are welcome to share with your networks. Also note that you can expect to receive a slightly updated Indicative Calendar of Activity for PwC’s Skills for Australia projects including the cross sector projects in the next 2-3 weeks as we continue to receive guidance and input from our IRCs.

Update on cross sector projects

  • Initial meetings of Project Reference Groups have been held: We have held our initial meeting of PRG members for all three of our cross sector projects.  In these, we discussed ways of working, project scope and timings, and sought input from PRG members about research and consultations to inform each project.
  • Planning for stakeholder consultations is currently underway: We are looking to conduct extensive, cross industry stakeholder consultations in the three skills areas. We want to hear from employers, subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders across a range of industries and geographic locations around Australia.
