Impulse Sale

Commonwealth Bank Australia (CBA) says 74% of retailers won’t be changing their approach to sales this Christmas, even though about half (46%) of shoppers expect larger discounts during the festive season.

According to CBA’s latest research from the Retail Insights Report, 18% of Australian retailers have commenced some form of Christmas sale, and 48% of consumers have started their Christmas shopping.

Shoppers have come to expect huge discounts in the lead up to Christmas in previous years, however retailers are not as keen to prematurely slash prices.

New research from Commonwealth Bank shows that 74% of retailers won’t be changing their approach to sales this Christmas.

“With three months to go until Christmas, retailers are holding fast to their usual festive season sales strategy,” said Jerry Macey, national manager retail, CBA.

“We are most likely to see initial discounts of 20%, broadly in line with other sales throughout the year.”
