There is no doubt that retail is tough, and working in retail is tough. It is an environment that thrives on demand – and the demands of its customers, which can be draining. So at the end of the year, many businesses let their employees celebrate the Christmas season in style. Unfortunately, the staff Christmas party also seems to be the time when professional boundaries not only get lowered, but thrown out the window.

If you only get one case of drunken misbehaviour, drugged-up misdemeanours, or sexual harassment in the year, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be from something done at the Christmas party – and it will be your bottom dollar, as claims arising from Christmas party mishaps can become very, very expensive.

In this webinar, we will discuss the key policies and procedures you need to put in place to minimise the risk of Christmas party shenanigans occurring and the process of dealing with any untoward conduct that manages to slip past your careful management. In particular, we will discuss the critical aspect of managing alcohol consumption and dealing with employees who become intoxicated at staff events and how to protect your business and staff from any misdemeanours of the intoxicated.

Our Silly Season Series is free for members of the National Retail Association and is presented by our team of dedicated workplace relations lawyers.
