Join us for a light breakfast, where a panel of small business partners will share their experiences in starting out, and the challenges you can expect to face in the first weeks and months of starting your business.
Getting started in business
In the first session of the day, we will look at everything you need to know to get your business up and running. Presented by Alex Millman and Sooraj Sidhu of NRA Legal, we will explore transfers of business, key considerations for negotiating a retail lease and your rights and obligations under the tenancy, and how to get the licenses you need to establish your business for future success.
Building your workforce
At the core of any successful business is its workforce. Presented by NRA Legal Director, Lindsay Carroll and Associate, Alex Millman this session will provide an overview of best practice recruitment methods, the basics of modern awards, and why employment contracts and policies are an important tool in any business.
Managing your financial wellbeing
During this session, Chartered Accountant, Alice Yeh will discuss all things finance. You will gain an understanding of how to structure your business, your taxation and superannuation obligations, record keeping principles, and reporting requirements.
Engaging with the law and establishing a risk management framework
Prevention is always better than cure when it comes to legal disputes. In this session, NRA Legal Director, Lindsay Carroll and Associate, Alex Millman, return to discuss some of your important legal obligations. This session will start with an overview of commercial disputes, and strategies when responding to litigation. We will look at your obligations under consumer law, and your responsibility to provide a safe workplace under work health and safety legislation.
Customer experience and visual merchandising
Customer service and effective merchandise displays are top priorities in building a successful new business. Presented by industry expert and experienced trainer, Suzi Glover during this interactive session, we will cover both the core and advanced skills necessary to communicate with others and engage with customers. You will also learn how to prepare, produce and maintain merchandise displays in accordance with visual merchandising requirements.
