The Hon Rob Lucas MLC, Treasurer, has announced a further 30 day exemption for extended trading hours in the Greater Adelaide Shopping District (CBD & Suburbs). SA Health officials continue to support extended shop trading as a measure which assists in physical distancing.

“The public health advice is clear and, that is, by giving shops the freedom to open extended hours if they choose, then that continues to promote important physical distancing which has been a cornerstone of our successful COVID-19 response,” said Mr Lucas.

Treasurer Rob Lucas said the further 30-day exemption would apply from Friday, June 19 to Saturday, July 18 (inclusive) – and allows supermarkets to open two hours earlier from 9am on Sunday and four hours later (until 9pm) on a Saturday and Sunday. Exemptions can only be granted for 30 days, after which time another decision will be made based on updated public health advice.

To summarise – Non-exempt shops (excluding car and boat dealers) in the CBD and suburbs can trade the following hours up to and including Saturday, 18 July 2020.

  • Monday to Friday – unrestricted trading
  • Saturday – until 9.00 pm
  • Sunday – 9.00 am to 9.00 pm

It is important to note that no shop is compelled to trade during any of the additional hours provided by the Exemption. For those that do, a condition of the Exemption is that all employees working during these extended hours will do so on a strictly voluntary basis.
