Australians spent a total of $20.1 billion in online retail shopping in the 12 months to June 2016, according to a new report commissioned by data analysts Quantium.

NAB Online Retail Sales Index

This total is still well below the amount spent on traditional bricks and mortar retail, which came in at $296.9 billion for June 2015 to May 2016.

While there is still an increase in online retail growth, it is at a lower rate than previous years. For instance, year on year growth for June 2011 was 35.9%, while for the 12 months to June 2016 it was only 13.5%.

It appears that while Australians are spending more and more money on online shopping, the growth rate has clearly slowed to a more modest pace.
