Container Refund Scheme Model Announced

The Tasmanian Government is currently seeking feedback on the draft Container Refund Scheme Bill 2021.

The Container Refund Scheme (CRS) will contribute to Tasmania’s circular economy by reducing litter and increasing resource recovery and recycling of beverage containers. Tasmania is joining every Australian state and territory that has or plans to implement a CRS.

When the scheme starts in 2022, consumers can return eligible beverage containers for a 10 cent refund to a designated Refund Point across Tasmania, such as in supermarkets and shopping centres.

Have your say

Public consultation on the draft Bill will run from Saturday 5 June to 5pm Friday 9 July 2021.

Information on how to access the short online survey and formal submissions can be found here

Got a question?

An online webinar is being held by the Tasmanian Government to discuss how the scheme will work and answer any questions.

The webinar will be held via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 17 June at 12:30 pm and will run for approximately 1 hour.
