Male Owner Of Coffee Shop

We’re excited to have been once again selected as the retail skills advisor for the Queensland Government through the VET Industry Engagement Program. The purpose of the Program is to advocate and recommend the reforms needed right now for the Queensland retail sector around skills, training and workforce development.

As part of our role, the NRA can also help you access several training and workforce development initiatives which are subsidised by the Queensland Government. Currently there are some great opportunities for training, including:

  • The Certificate 3 Guarantee provides a government subsidy to allow eligible Queenslanders to obtain their first post-school certificate III level qualification.
  • The Higher Level Skills program provides a government subsidy to help individuals gain the higher level skills and qualifications (such as Certificate IV and Diplomas) required to secure employment or career advancement in retail.
  • Skilling Queenslanders for Work is a targeted training program supporting Queenslanders to gain the skills, qualifications and experience to enter and stay in the retail workforce.
  • With over 400 attendees in under six months, the NRA Industry Partnership Strategy has been such a success for the Retail Sector that the Queensland government is re-funding the program for a further 200 participants. This means we will be able to continue to deliver dozens more workshops on topics like customer service, WHS and any other priority skills areas in coming months.  Click here for our upcoming workshops.

We’re also looking for a number of case studies that show off ‘best practice’ training for retail staff from all different business sizes.

So if you would like to discuss these initiatives, or have any comment on training priorities for the retail sector that you would like us to highlight to the Queensland Government,  please contact Yvonne Williams, Director of Training and Industry Projects on 07 3240 0100 or email y.williams@nra.net.au
