Safe Work Australia has published the Second Annual National Statement which identifies emerging trends in psychosocial health, safety and bullying in Australian workplaces. The data in the statement is based on data from accepted worker’s compensation claims involving mental stress.
The statement highlights some interesting workplace trends:
•the median direct cost of bullying-related workers’ compensation claims is nearly $20 000 higher than all claims average;
• the frequency rate of harassment or bullying-related claims made by women in the three years up to June 2013 was three times higher than the male claims rate;
•female employees made more than 26 workers’ compensation claims per 100 million hours worked for work pressure which was more than double the male rate;
•by occupation, clerical and administrative workers lodged the most bullying-related claims in the three years to 2012-13, followed closely by information and organisation professionals.
