The National Retail Association’s Chairman and Directors have been re-elected unchallenged, in a strong show of faith by members in the performance and direction of their association.
Chair Mark Brodie, Deputy Chair Ian Winterburn and Directors Kristine Skippington, Geoff Hogg and Tim Schaafsma resumed their positions at today’s annual general meeting.
The NRA has also added NORA (National Online Retail Association) Network Founder and Director Paul Greenberg to its Board, broadening the association’s connection with industry’s the fastest-growing sector – online trading.
Mr Brodie welcomed the addition of Mr Greenberg to the Board, saying the association would now add direct expertise in online retail to its leadership team, supporting the existing directors’ expertise in fast food, small business, homewares, hospitality and training.
“Paul will be an outstanding addition to the NRA Board, and will further cement the association’s position as Australia’s leading advocate for the retail sector.
“In order to support retail, you need to understand it. Every member of our Board brings a different but equally important perspective on the retail and hospitality sector. It’s only natural that we should add expertise in online retail as well.”
Mr Greenberg said the NRA Board and membership and recognised the explosive growth in online and multi-platform retail, and had moved to stay at the forefront of industry trends.
“Online retail is everyone’s opportunity, and the NRA is the stand-out industry association supporting its members to take advantage of the opportunities available,” Mr Greenberg said.
“My election to the NRA Board shows that the association and its members are taking very seriously both the opportunities available in the online space, and the risks of sitting on their hands.
“I am humbled to have been elected, and look forward to making a positive contribution to the Board, the association and the entire industry.”
The election for Directors and the Chair and Deputy Chair was conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission, in line with the NRA’s status as a federally registered industrial organisation.
The financial reports tabled at today’s AGM showed the association remains in a strong financial position, with multi-million dollar cash reserves.
The National Retail Association is Australia’s largest and most representative retail industry association. It has been serving businesses in the retail and fast food sectors for close to 100 years.
