The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) deployed an unannounced campaign in Ballarat this week to address concerns regarding potential non-compliance with Commonwealth workplace laws.

The FWO campaign had a particular focus on businesses in the retail, fast food and hospitality industries and conducted more than 50 visits to retail businesses, cafes, bars and restaurants this week.

A further 150 businesses were contacted by telephone and asked to provide records and other information to enable an assessment of their compliance with their obligations.

The main focus for the FWO was to assess compliance with minimum wages, overtime, penalty rates, allowances, record-keeping and pay slip obligations in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009 and the Fair Work Regulations 2009.

The FWO deploys announced and unannounced campaigns. Find out more about current announced campaigns here.
