Training Packages

The National Retail Association (NRA) has been selected as the industry intelligence provider for the Queensland Government through the VET Industry Engagement Program. This position gives us the platform to advocate and recommend the reforms our members believe are needed for the retail sector around skills, training and workforce development.

You may be aware that Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) were contracted to complete the transition of all training packages to the 2012 standards for training packages. The end date for this work was December 2015. Many training packages were revised, however significantly fewer were actually processed by the Commonwealth in time for the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) to consider prior to the contract deadline.

AISC is planning to consider up to 20 revised training packages at their scheduled meetings in February and March, including:
• SIR Retail Services
• SHBv2 Hairdressing and Beauty Services
The NRA is very interested to know any general industry intelligence about outstanding development or potential implementation issues for these training packages. Specifically, we are seeking any comments or concerns to do with:
• Any changes which may create a need for gap training
• Any issues like supply of training organisations to deliver new or revised training products
• Changes to apprenticeships, traineeships or licensing outcomes
• Potential HR or IR issues associated with any changes to these training packages that will impact on training priorities.
