Victoria announces return to Stage 3 Lockdown in metropolitan Melbourne and Shire of Mitchell

VIC border closure to protect NSW

NSW will temporarily shut its border with Victoria to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the health and jobs of NSW citizens. The closure will be effective from 12.01am Wednesday, 8 July and follows the concerning spread of COVID-19 in Melbourne. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the decision was made after consulting with the NSW Chief Health Officer and discussions with the Prime Minister and Victorian Premier Dan Andrews. The people of NSW have done an incredible job to help stop the spread of COVID-19, allowing us to open up our economy, Ms Berejiklian said.

From 12.01am Tuesday 7 July, the NSW HotSpot Order will be extended to residents from Greater Melbourne. This means they will only be able to enter NSW for very limited reasons, such as obtaining medical care, or fulfilling a legal obligation. The border between NSW and Victoria will be closed from 12.01am Wednesday, 8 July. The requirement for NSW residents returning from Melbourne hotspots to self-isolate for 14 days will then be extended to anyone returning from Victoria. Heavy penalties and fines apply.

Update on ACT/Victoria travel restrictions

Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, says from 12:01am on Wednesday 8 July, the ACT will be enhancing travel restrictions for anyone travelling into the ACT from Victoria. All ACT residents will be approved to return home, subject to entering quarantine for a period of 14 days from the day after leaving Victoria. ACT residents will be required to notify ACT Health of their intent to return to the ACT, and provide details on how they intend to travel back to the Territory and where they intend to quarantine. Any ACT resident that is unable to safely quarantine in their private residence will be provided with options of suitable accommodation where they can quarantine at their own expense.

Queensland maintains border closure to Victoria

From 10 July 2020, any person from New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory, may enter Queensland subject to completing and signing a border declaration.

If any person entering Queensland from whatever place has spent time in any local government area in Victoria during the past 14 days, they will be subject to mandatory hotel quarantine.
