Peak industry body the National Retail Association welcomes moves by major retailers to reduce plastic waste.

The retail sector has always been in front of government regulation in its efforts to dial back plastic waste and proactive industry response is vital for the ongoing success of this movement.

Over the last five years Australian retailers and consumers have worked together to eliminate billions of plastic bags.

Australian retailers and consumers are adaptable and resilient, having managed previous transitions, we are confident that they will be able to handle future changes.

The National Retail Association has been involved with a number of state governments to help small retailers across Australia adhere to regulatory changes regarding single-use plastics. We ask businesses to reach out if they require more information on the issue.

The National Retail Association is the voice of modern retail, representing more than 60,000 stores across Australia. It has been serving businesses in the retail and fast-food sectors for close to 100 years.
