On 7 November 2019, the Queensland Government announced that it would consider introducing enabling legislation in 2020, subject to a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS), to ban the supply of specific plastic items as part of the release of the Tackling Plastic Waste – Queensland’s Plastic Pollution Reduction Plan, a foundation measure of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy.
