At the National Retail Association we are always looking for ways to ensure that our members are as informed as possible on any matter relating to retail. Whether it be legal advice, training or assisting on legislative changes such as plastic bag bans, we’re always looking to provide services that help you run your business.

It’s for that reason that next Tuesday we will be hosting the 2019 HR Academy in Sydney. We have a blockbuster program lined up, with expert guest speakers from across the retail spectrum.

Panel discussions will canvass topics from automation, compliance, global trends in retail, performance and conduct management, customer violence, diversity in the workplace, and a Q&A session with a representative from the Fair Work Commission.

Mastering human resources is not only helpful for running a successful business, it is essential. However, navigating HR challenges and ensuring that every aspect of your business is run above board is far easier said than done. Those of you running a small business will know only too well how difficult it can be without the sort of resources that large businesses have access to. Australia’s complex industrial relations system does not help and it is easy for unintentional errors to fall through the cracks and create massive headaches.

For instance, the vast majority of cases regarding non-compliance do not involve some unscrupulous business owner deliberately ripping off their staff. In fact, more often than not the discrepancies are found by the company themselves who then self-report the matter to the Fair Work Commission. Unfortunately, even self-reporting can still come with stiff penalties from the FWC, not to mention some unwanted media headlines.

Events such as the HR Academy are designed to proactively inform all NRA members on how to avoid any mishaps that may land you and your business in hot water. If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage all of you to come along for what should be both an engaging and informative day.
